In Conversation: with Trevor Daniel

Music News

Following the success of 2019's single Falling, Houston-hailing maverick Trevor Daniel finally pleases fans with the release of his hotly awaited debut album Nicotine. Nicotine is a ten-track, tightly produced album that aims to capture an entire generation. Written in the span of a few months, the project is a reflective journal of Trevor’s tug of war relationship with love. We caught up with Daniel during quarantine for some quick-fire questions with music editor Dylan Weller.

Summer Walker featured on Falling how did that come about?

Summer DM’d me saying she wanted to do it and she’s fire so I said let’s do it!

How many tattoos do you have and which is your favourite?

I think I have 19 and my favorite is the one on my forearm. It’s the one that represents the album Nicotine. It’s a cigarette, but instead of smoke, it’s flowers coming out the end and the flowers represent hope.

How are you keeping yourself occupied during quarantine?

I’ve been painting, writing a poetry book, and journaling a lot.

Favourite cocktail?

A virgin margarita!

Most inspiring person who’s influenced your music or songwriting?

There have been so many people that it’s hard to name one, but it would have to be all of my close friends who are constantly pushing me to be better.

What’s the theme behind your debut album Nicotine?

Nicotine is a metaphor for expressing the fact that I love something, yet I realize that it’s bad for me.

One album for the rest of your life - what would you choose?

An album made by me that is never finished. That way I can keep making songs and keep hearing new things. I tricked the system with this answer!

Is there any sort of ritual you follow to get yourself in a creative mode when writing and creating music?

I don’t really have any ritual. There’s no real consistent habit, it just comes when it comes.

Who is your dream collaboration?

My dream collaboration is Taylor swift for sure.
