10 Questions: with Flyo

Music News

Flyo's long-standing relationship with Suspect has seen the go-to producer make some of his biggest hits to date, including One Way ft Skepta and Say It With Your Chest. His other producer credits include the likes of Ms. Banks, Master Peace, and Tiny Boost as he positions himself as one of the most in-demand producers in the UK rap scene. The North London producer just dropped his second EP, Supafly Strikes Back, which features the likes of RV, LD, Stella Santana, and Jesse James Soloman - continuing to fly the flag for both established and upcoming UK talent.

Your music has been described as hard-hitting drill, what do you think about American musicians rapping on drill beats now?

This is the first time I’ve heard my sound described as “hard-hitting drill” but I think that only good things can come from more international use of UK drill beats; more exposure and the sound will evolve further. Also, it's a bit ironic as drill started in America.

Can you differentiate between being an artist vs being a producer, or do you find yourself in the studio as both?

I don’t consider myself an artist; I'm a producer. It just so happens it’s my name on the project, but nothing changes in the studio whether the songs are for me or for someone else.

Can you tell us one interesting fact about yourself or your music that not many people know?

I told my mum when I was 17 that I was gonna work with Giggs somehow, and then years later it happened!

Name your dream venue to perform in.

I've crossed that one off the list already, I performed at Wireless Festival in Finsbury Park, which is where I grew up.

One genre of music for the rest of your life - what would it be?

Hip-Hop, it has so many sub-genres, you can never get bored.

What advice would you give people wanting to make the move from producer to artist?

I don't think there is much of a “transition” nowadays, most producers already move like artists with their social media presence, websites, etc. The only thing I’d say is get used to the camera but nowadays that's normal for almost everyone.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

Would you work for 20 years to chill for 10?

Who would you like to collaborate most with?

Dream collabs are Nas, Nipsey Hussle (RIP), Styles P, Prodigy (RIP), and Gucci Mane.

The animation for your cover is really sick and definitely different. Is there a specific reason you decided to do this?

Yeah, I wanted my cover art to be a bit different from the norm and for it to stand in its own lane so to speak. Also, it's my brother who designs the artwork and I wanted to bring him in somehow.

What song are you most proud of on Supafly Strikes Back?

The song I’m most proud of on SSB would have to be the first single Hoodies, Gloves. I love the beat and the video, everything went smoothly with that one.
