Ahead of its official debut, I spent twenty-four hours in the Spanish capital with MATCH Hospitality, gaining exclusive access to MADRING, the future circuit that will sit at the heart of this transformation, alongside a first look at how the city is positioning itself as one of the most compelling lifestyle destinations on the Formula One calendar.

Our experience began with an exclusive tour of MADRING, still in development yet already carrying a sense of scale and ambition that feels distinctly Madrid.

Unlike traditional circuits located on the outskirts of cities, MADRING is designed as an urban experience and woven into the fabric of Madrid itself. The layout is bold, fast, and unapologetically integrated into the surrounding environment, ensuring that Formula One will not sit outside the city, but within it.

Walking through the future hospitality zones and track viewpoints with MATCH Hospitality, there was a strong sense that this is not simply a sporting venue being constructed, but a cultural stage being built. One that will showcase Madrid to a global audience at full volume.

For this visit, I selected a stay at the Palacio de los Duques, Gran Meliá, a property that feels more like an immersion into Madrid’s aristocratic past than a traditional hotel.

Set moments from the Royal Palace and Teatro Real, the location places guests at the intersection of history, culture and contemporary city life.

Outside, Madrid moves quickly. Inside, everything slows.

The hotel occupies a former 19th-century palace, and that history is not simply preserved; it's woven into the experience. Interiors draw inspiration from Diego Velázquez, with layered textures, deep tonal palettes and carefully curated artworks that give the property a sense of cultural weight without feeling performative. Expect to find live music during breakfast whilst you peruse through artefacts and moments of history that include personal letters from Christopher Columbus.

Across the hotel, chandeliers, a baby grand piano, and objets d'art create a deeper narrative thread, reinforcing and grounding the property within Spain’s broader cultural memory rather than treating it as a decorative backdrop.

Arrival begins with a glass of chilled champagne or, when in Spain, a cava, followed by the kind of calm, attentive service that sets the tone for everything that follows.

After a day exploring MADRING with MATCH Hospitality, soaking in the bath becomes a moment of reset, a quiet pause between intensity and indulgence. And for those seeking more than a tub, the roof terrace boasts a beautiful pool with views over the city.

Breakfast the following morning is equally considered. Served in a light-filled dining room overlooking the gardens, it offers a balance of Spanish tradition and international comfort: fresh pastries, seasonal fruit, Iberian charcuterie, eggs cooked to order and strong, unhurried coffee. It's an experience designed for lingering rather than leaving.
