This is a first and it's very exciting for sure! CHANEL Beauty have announced their first-ever openly trans model to be the face of the brand, and it comes in the form of beauty Teddy Quinlivan who came out as openly trans in 2017.
This is a huge step for the fashion house and is shining the spotlight on the LGBTQ+ community promoting diversity and trans visibility. But who is Teddy? The 25-year-old hails from Boston.U.S. and has previously walked shows for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Chloé. She also has featured in L'Officiel and Wonderland Magazine to name a few and is a strong activist.
The model announced the achievement on her 97,000 strong Instagram page expressing “I find I don’t cry anymore when things are sad, but isn’t it interesting when we shed tears in moments of triumph? This was one of those triumphant cry moments for me. My whole life has been a fight. From being bullied at school consistently, kids threatening to kill me and going into graphic detail how they were going to do it, my own father beating me and calling me a f–got, to receiving industry blowback after speaking publicly about being sexually assaulted on the job.…This was a victory that made all of that s–t worth it.”
Victoria's Secret recently announced Valentina Sampaio as the first-ever openly trans model to front their campaign, and hopefully, this will open the door to further opportunities and highlight a Time For Change.
