The Love Heart Room: Sing in Style at Karaoke Heaven

Birthdays and special occasions can bring on that tug-of-war between doing something grand and keeping it simple. It’s like balancing the desire for memorable moments with the appeal of something more intimate and low-key. I often choose the latter. But this year, I decided to switch things up and embrace the undeniable glamour of karaoke. With fellow editors in tow, we ventured to the Star of Bethnal Green's freshly revamped karaoke rooms—an experience so memorable it’s now officially editor-approved.

The Star is no stranger to music royalty—it’s where every indie band worth mentioning, from Bloc Party to The Libertines, once hung out in the 2000s. Its deep roots in Shoreditch’s creative, offbeat spirit make it a local legend. Shoreditch itself, of course, has long been synonymous with London cool. Known for its street art, alternative fashion, and cutting-edge nightlife, it’s the go-to spot for those drawn to a creatively charged, effortlessly edgy atmosphere.

When it comes to karaoke in London, options abound, but few hit the mark like the Karaoke Heaven. Many venues promise a fun night but underdeliver with subpar playlists or lacklustre decor. Not here. Each of their karaoke rooms is meticulously designed to reflect different moods and personalities. Whether you want to channel a disco diva or rock star or unleash your spirit animal, these rooms ensure your night is as unique as you are.

We booked the Love Heart Room, and it was everything you’d imagine—a pink-hued, nostalgic haven bursting with charm. With its intimate size and playful decor, it’s the perfect spot for belting out your favourite love songs with your besties. Our playlist was a heartfelt mix of Madonna, Whitney, and early 2000s throwbacks, amplified by the top-tier sound system that brought every note to life. It’s a space where sentimentality reigns supreme, and every song feels personal.

If you’re in the mood for something more nostalgic, the Studio 54 Room is a time machine straight to the 70s. With its glittering disco balls and plush seating, the space feels like a retro dream. There’s room for a crowd of up to 16-perfect for the festive season, and with tracks ranging from Dolly's Jolene to LL Cool J, the playlist covers all bases. It’s the ideal space to sip bubbles, groove to timeless hits, and bask in the disco fever atmosphere.

For a dose of rock and roll energy, head to The Viper Room, where gritty, rebellious vibes take centre stage. This room invites you to channel your inner rock star, with an aesthetic that screams underground gig. It’s raw, edgy, and perfect for those who want to go all out and lose themselves in the music.

The Wild Room, on the other hand, brings a more adventurous feel with its jungle-inspired decor—ideal for those wanting to let loose in an untamed, lively space. And for a splash of colour, there’s The Rainbow Room, a neon-lit dream filled with vibrant hues and feel-good hits. Each room offers its own unique energy, allowing you to tailor your night to your group’s mood.

And with the party season fast approaching, the Star couldn’t be more perfect for holiday parties and ringing in the new year. Picture this: celebrating with your friends in a stylish, soundproof room, raising glasses of bubbles as you sing the night away. The rooms are designed for memorable moments—whether you’re serenading your squad with Christmas classics or belting out your New Year’s Eve anthem.

After your karaoke session, the fun doesn’t stop. Head downstairs, where the vibe continues with a DJ spinning the best tunes, and the energy in the bar is electric—especially on weekends when Shoreditch’s coolest crowd comes out to play.
