“You are the one that possesses the keys to your being. You carry the passport to your own happiness.”

Diane von Furstenberg

For some reason skiing has long been synonymous with groups—months of meticulous planning, WhatsApp groups, après-ski schedules, and coordinated outfits. But who decided that was the blueprint? In a busy world where even arranging dinner plans feels like an ordeal, why let group logistics keep us from the slopes?

Enter solo skiing—or what we call 'Soloski'—the rise of individuals breaking free from the constraints and timings of group trips. With demanding careers and non-stop travel, many are carving out time to embrace the mountains on their own terms, and we are here for this movement.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or a novice, solo skiing is redefining the traditional ski getaway. And there’s no better place to embrace this liberating trend than Verbier, where not only the slopes offer freedom, but the atmosphere encourages connection, and every detail is designed around you.

Why Verbier and how to pack?

After being crowned Switzerland’s best ski resort in 2019 and 2020, Verbier came back in 2021 to claim the world’s top title in 2021, dethroning Val Thorens’ five-year reign. Consistently ranked among the elite, Verbier blends high-altitude adventure with refined luxury.

No trip is complete without the right luggage and attire—and our current go-tos are Kapten & Son and Cirkel Supply. For our four-day escape, we packed like pros, fitting three weeks’ worth of outfits into Kapten & Son’s London Heathrow Set, perfectly paired with the Lisbon Crossbody Bag and Lisbon Backpack.

As for skiwear, we kept it stylish and sustainable by hiring chic apparel from Cirkel Supply, delivered straight to our hotel. From our own Gucci wellies to après-ski looks, we stayed effortlessly Alpine chic.

The compliments came thick and fast. At the airport, travellers stopped us to ask about the sleek, minimalist design and sandstone tones. Spacious yet compact, the London Heathrow Set is a masterclass in stylish efficiency.

Getting There: Swiss Precision at Its Finest

Reaching Verbier is a breeze, with regular UK-Geneva flights. London Heathrow alone offers up to six daily departures. SWISS Airlines lives up to its reputation for efficiency; despite a minor 20-minute delay, our flight arrived on time—a rarity in modern aviation.

From Geneva, the journey to Verbier is an experience in itself. For a scenic escape, take the two-hour train ride (with a quick change at Martigny), offering breathtaking views of Lake Geneva, alpine peaks, and Swiss villages. The platform switch is conveniently located opposite your departure point—effortless, even with luggage.

Prefer privacy and speed? A chauffeur-driven car delivers you to Verbier in just two hours, winding through mountain roads in impeccable style.

Accommodation: The DNA of Quiet Luxury

Verbier epitomises quiet luxury—where wealth is whispered, not flaunted. The clientele favours heritage brands over ostentatious displays, and its chalets and boutique hotels blend discretion with indulgence.

The Experimental Chalet brings the signature cool of the Experimental Group to the Swiss Alps. Plush coral carpets, tasselled room keys, and mood-setting music create an inviting atmosphere, while sleek bathrooms and ample storage showcase impeccable attention to detail. Guests can unwind at the in-house spa or indulge in what’s considered the best breakfast in the Alps—a lavish buffet of charcuterie, pastries, or freshly prepared à la carte options at Frenchie.

For the ultimate private retreat, Ski Armadillo’s Chalet Pierrepointe offers personalised luxury. With a dedicated chef, Aesop toiletries, bespoke alpine Discothéque candles, a private hot tub and boasting breathtaking views, it’s a dream for solo skiers. Mornings are for peaceful solitude; afternoons, for conquering the slopes. Evenings bring an ambient scene—perfect for enjoying a quiet moment or decompressing by the fire.

Beyond the slopes, Verbier’s diverse events calendar ensures plenty of ways to meet like-minded people, from Pride celebrations and art fairs to ballet performances and alpine festivals, it’s a haven for curious, like-minded travellers.

The Slopes: A Playground for Every Skier

Whether carving black diamond runs or taking your first turns, Verbier caters to every level.

For seasoned pros, this village is a mecca. The legendary Mont Gelé and Bec des Rosses boast world-class freeride terrain. Solo skiers can relish the freedom of tackling these legendary runs without waiting on a group. Guided off-piste tours unlock untouched powder, offering expert navigation.

For intermediates, Verbier balances challenge and accessibility. The Bruson area, with its scenic tree-lined runs and minimal crowds, is ideal for uninterrupted skiing. The 4 Vallées ski area spans 410 km of pistes, ensuring endless variety without repetition.

For beginners, Les Esserts—affectionately called The Baby Slope—offers the perfect starting point. With expert instructors and private lessons available, solo skiers can progress at their own pace, free from the pressure of large group classes.

The Après-Skier: Where the Real Scene Begins

Let’s be honest—skiing is only half the story. Verbier’s après-ski scene is legendary. Whether dancing in ski boots at Farinet, indulging in a fireside cocktail at Le Rouge, or sipping vintage champagne at the Experimental Chalet, there’s something for every mood.

Solo skiers needn’t worry about feeling out of place—the sophisticated crowd and intimate lounges make it easy to blend in or strike up a conversation. For a restorative experience, unwind with cryotherapy, private spa suites, or mountain yoga retreats, balancing adrenaline with relaxation.
