Calvin Klein Collection Spring 2027: When Minimalism Leaves Something Behind
Minimalism has always been central to the Calvin Klein vocabulary, but for Spring 2027, Veronica Leoni asked what happens when there's almost nothing left to remove. Presented at New York's Terminal Warehouse, her latest Calvin Klein Collection continued the house's exploration of American Minimalism, stripping back familiar wardrobe staples until the focus fell squarely on the woman wearing them.
“American Minimalism was a discipline of removal,” Leoni said. “Take away everything that does not carry the work, until only what is necessary remains.” Her interpretation takes that principle somewhere more intimate. “My minimalism begins there, in the relation between design and a body, with nothing in between.”
The collection was built around the foundations of a wardrobe rather than for novelty's sake: the coat, shirt, trousers, tailoring, pencil skirt and slip. Silhouettes were elongated and narrowed, or drawn in at the waist, creating a sense of restraint that still allowed the body to dictate the shape.
Tailoring came thin and crisp in cotton and lightweight wool. A slim three-button cotton suit carried the ease of a T-shirt, while broader-shouldered jackets introduced a little more volume, designed to be layered. The slip and T-shirt dresses were transformed into full bias-cut evening dresses, while extra-fine silk knit T-shirts and colour-blocked baseball shirts in silk cady brought the house's American sportswear heritage into sharper focus.
Then came the details that prevented the collection from becoming too polished. Denim, leather and laser-cut suede added texture, while delicate flashes of underwear brought a more exposed, sensual element to the otherwise disciplined wardrobe. It was a recurring tension throughout the collection: clean lines against bare skin, tailoring against lingerie, restraint against desire.
The colour palette began, predictably, with Calvin Klein's familiar language of black and white, although here there was considerably more nuance within both. Scarlet, bright yellow, royal blue, cherry and light citron punctuated the neutrals, while a check inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's wardrobe introduced an unexpected historical reference into the otherwise pared-back collection.
Accessories followed the same principle of function before ornament. Metal headbands pulled the hair away from the face, scarves draped cleanly before coming to a point, and bags increased dramatically in scale. Some were sleek and architectural, others deliberately soft and slouchy, while a new triangular, origami-like shape added another geometric element to the collection.
The setting was almost as important as the clothes. Terminal Warehouse, the block-long brick structure built in 1891 to designs by George B. Mallory, provided an imposing piece of New York industrial architecture for the show. Three-floor sculptures by Walter De Maria sat along the runway, allowing models and guests to move through the work rather than simply around it.
The soundtrack, created by Kid Harpoon, layered Laurie Anderson and Solange over sustained, repeating musical figures, reinforcing the show's sense of controlled repetition and quiet tension.
The front row reflected the cultural breadth of Calvin Klein, with ROSALÍA, Teyana Taylor, Tate McRae, Sadie Sink, Solange, Emily Ratajkowski, Pamela Anderson, Gemma Chan, Katie Holmes, St. Vincent, Misty Copeland, Iris Law, Lila Moss and Sabrina Elba among those attending in Calvin Klein Collection. A wider Calvin Klein universe was also represented, with Nara Smith, Wisdom Kaye, Charli D'Amelio, Alexa Chung, Camila Coelho and others wearing Calvin Klein Collection, Calvin Klein Jeans and tailored suiting.
Yet beneath the celebrity names and industrial setting, the collection remained remarkably focused. Leoni's Calvin Klein does not need excess to make an impression. Instead, Spring 2027 finds its power in proportion, construction and the relationship between clothing and the body.
If American Minimalism once meant removing everything unnecessary, Leoni's version understands that what remains can be the most revealing part. In her Calvin Klein Collection, minimalism is not about denying desire. It is about leaving enough space for it.
