For a few hours on a warm London evening, Bloomsbury ceased to be Bloomsbury.
Instead, guests were transported thousands of miles away to the dazzling energy of Rio de Janeiro, where sequins shimmered beneath theatrical lighting, champagne flowed freely, and the unmistakable rhythms of Latin America transformed the capital into a carnival of colour, music and movement.
The Copacabana experience is not simply a dinner show. It's a carefully orchestrated celebration of Latin culture, designed for those who want more than a meal or an evening's entertainment. Opting for the Diamond Platinum Package elevated the occasion further, combining premium dining with immersive performance in a way that felt indulgent from the moment we arrived.
Guests were greeted with a glass of champagne in the lounge, complete with a photobooth setting the scene for the events ahead. Moving onto the main ballroom, live Latin musicians performed classic melodies, immediately setting the tone for the evening ahead. The atmosphere was polished but playful. Formal attire was encouraged and embraced, with guests dressed for the occasion and clearly ready to surrender themselves to the festivities.

The pre-show canapé selection offered a promising introduction to the culinary journey. Delicate smoked salmon and caviar bites delivered a welcome touch of luxury, while miniature Wagyu burgers brought richness and indulgence. A mozzarella bite completed the trio, creating a balanced selection that paired effortlessly with the evening's bubbles.
One of the evening's most charming details was the naming of our ticket: LON-RIO for Lola, a playful nod to Barry Manilow's legendary Copacabana anthem. It was a subtle touch, but one that perfectly captured the spirit of the event, nostalgic yet contemporary, familiar yet entirely transportive.
Dinner unfolded across three courses, each drawing inspiration from Latin American flavours while remaining accessible to a broad audience.
The opening course, a Salmon Tiradito, showcased Scottish smoked salmon elevated by a vibrant passion fruit leche de tigre. Pickled chilli added gentle heat, while coriander oil brought freshness and balance. The result was bright, elegant and beautifully presented, offering a sophisticated interpretation of a Latin American classic.

For the main course, roasted cod moqueca arrived bathed in a fragrant Brazilian coconut sauce. Served alongside coriander rice and charred lime, the dish successfully captured the comforting nature of Brazilian cuisine while maintaining a sense of refinement suitable for the occasion. The coconut sauce provided richness without overwhelming the delicate fish, while the citrus lifted every mouthful.
The finale of the dining experience came in the form of tres leches, a traditional milk cake accompanied by dulce de leche and lime cream. Sweet without becoming heavy, it provided a fitting conclusion before the evening shifted fully into performance mode.
Throughout dinner, we enjoyed a selection of drinks that complemented the experience perfectly. Bubbles remained a constant presence, while a Chilean red wine offered depth alongside the main course. The standout, however, was the Copacabana cocktail itself, blending rum, passion fruit and pineapple into a tropical concoction that felt as though it had arrived directly from a beachfront bar overlooking the Atlantic.
Then came the show.

As the lights dimmed and the music intensified, the room transformed into something altogether different. The production seamlessly blended classic Latin standards with contemporary hits, creating a soundtrack that appealed across generations. Glittering costumes, elaborate choreography and impressive acrobatics ensured there was never a quiet moment.
Particularly memorable was Tatiana's aerial performance. Suspended high above the audience, she delivered a graceful display that combined athleticism with artistry, adding a sense of spectacle that elevated the production beyond a traditional cabaret format.
Among the sequins and spectacle were subtle nods to Brazilian cultural history, most notably through a series of modern reinterpretations of Carmen Miranda's iconic fruit hat. Less costume and more contemporary art piece, the styling paid tribute to one of Brazil's most recognisable cultural exports while giving the look a futuristic update. It was these details that elevated the production beyond a standard dinner show, grounding the glamour in genuine cultural appreciation rather than relying solely on visual extravagance.

What makes Copacabana particularly successful is its ability to avoid becoming a caricature. While the show embraces the glamour, excess and exuberance associated with Rio Carnival, it also demonstrates genuine appreciation for the music, dance and traditions that inspire it. Salsa, samba and broader Latin American influences are celebrated rather than simply referenced.
The audience responded accordingly. By the final act, barriers had disappeared entirely. Tables that began the evening politely sipping champagne were now clapping along, singing and preparing to leave their seats for the conga line.
When the unmistakable opening notes of Copacabana finally arrived, the room erupted. The finale delivered exactly what everyone had been waiting for: a joyful celebration complete with guests enthusiastically joining the party.
In an era where many immersive experiences promise escapism but deliver little more than a themed backdrop, Copacabana genuinely succeeds in transporting its audience elsewhere. It captures the energy of Rio, the glamour of old-school cabaret and the warmth of Latin hospitality, all without requiring a passport.

For those considering a visit, the Diamond Platinum Package is undoubtedly the way to experience it. The premium dining, champagne welcome and excellent seating transform the evening from a show into a complete occasion. The combination of carefully curated cuisine, attentive service and world-class entertainment creates an experience that feels celebratory from beginning to end.
Whether celebrating a special occasion, entertaining visiting friends or simply searching for a reason to dress up and escape the everyday, Copacabana delivers something increasingly rare in London: unapologetic joy.
Copacabana is currently running until the 29th August
