In beauty journalism, the most exciting stories are the ones that test the limits of science. And in 2025, those limits are being pushed daily in the race to outsmart ageing.
Consider Bryan Johnson, the tech entrepreneur who has become infamous for plasma exchanges, macro diets and spending millions on longevity experiments. Despite the headlines, he doesn’t quite look like the picture of health and his results often seem more spectacle than science. Which left me wondering: does rejuvenation have to be punishing, elitist, or excessive?

I wasn’t convinced. With two health related degrees, and nearly two decades spent dissecting the beauty industry, I set out to investigate a different path: one rooted in evidence, accessibility, and, dare I say, common sense.
This was not just detached reporting. I had my own list of persistent but often overlooked health concerns: hormonal acne flaring since I quit the pill, stress-related thinning hair at the temples, new night sweats, stubborn hyperpigmentation, fatigue that lingered, and ulcerative proctitis, an inflammatory bowel disease that emerged two years ago after I quit smoking and overhauled my lifestyle.
On paper, I should have been thriving. My bloodwork was pristine, my diet clean and balanced, my skincare routine advanced and clinical-grade. I walked daily with my pooches, meditated, journaled, and supplemented wisely. Yet my biological age matched my chronological one: 38.
I could manage most of these issues — the acne, the pigmentation — but I couldn’t outsmart them entirely. And I had drawn clear boundaries for myself: no tweakments, no tox, no shortcuts. I preferred optimism over obsession. Still, the question lingered: with all the science and tools now available, could I do better?
For 60 days, I layered clinical skincare, NAD+ infusions, home technologies, supplements, and recovery rituals. Every result was tracked. My goal was not vanity. It was renewal.
Measuring Youth
If I was going to biohack myself, I needed proof. Skin health was tracked daily with a BeautyPro Hydratest - a Skin Analyser Sebum Sensor and photo diaries, with a mid-point Mark Vu clinical scan at Harley Street's Korean Maylin clinic.
The Withings Body Scan Scale became my barometer of internal change, reporting vascular age, ECG, body fat percentage, and a daily “body age” score.
From L-R the Brain Driver tDCS machine, BeautyPro's Hydratest and Withings Body scan scale
For my brain, I turned to the Brain Driver tDCS v2.1, used three to five times a week to deliver low-level electrical currents to the prefrontal cortex. Created by Alex Heredia after a biking accident, the device builds on a century of research into transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). The science is compelling: studies show benefits ranging from alleviating depression and aiding stroke rehabilitation to boosting athletic performance, with even NASA testing its potential to keep astronauts sharp. For me, it was about focus, neuroplasticity, and resilience.
Internal Wellness
Diet was already my strength, so I focused on giving my cells and gut an extra edge. Daily Biotiful kefir yoghurt and drinks kept my microbiome diverse, strengthening the gut–skin connection. A healthy gut helps calm inflammation, improves nutrient absorption, and even shows up on the skin as fewer breakouts and more radiance. By the end of my 60 days I saw signs of remission for my ulcerative proctitis.
To boost energy, I added Truherb Shilajit (available exclusively at John Bell & Croyden), a mineral-rich resin packed with fulvic acid. Think of it as fuel for your mitochondria, the “batteries” inside your cells that power everything from recovery to daily energy levels.
At REVIV Clinic, I started with an NAD+ infusion. NAD+ is a natural molecule that declines with age, but it’s essential for DNA repair and energy production. Restoring it can help cells perform as if they’re younger. Alongside this, I had a B12 shot for mood, focus, and metabolism. A month later, I went back for a 10x beauty IV drip — a blend of essential vitamins designed to top up hydration, support skin health, and keep energy steady.
Skincare: The Four Pillars
Great skin isn’t built on quick fixes but on four core pillars: barrier strength, correction, protection and recovery. A healthy barrier locks in hydration and keeps irritants out, which is the foundation for resilience and glow. Correction targets stubborn issues like pigmentation, fine lines, or uneven tone, helping skin look clearer and more youthful over time. Protection defends against daily stressors, from pollution to UV damage, that silently accelerate aging. Together, these pillars create a cycle of repair, renewal, and defence, allowing skin to function at its best.

Barrier strength was my first priority. LABAREAU’s The Collection (featuring a day, night cream and AHA peel), is infused with SAXZ-12® and 97% native atelocollagen, reinforced elasticity and structure. BIOEFFECT’s 30-Day EGF Treatment sent youthful repair signals through epidermal growth factors, while the Lightinderm device paired LED wavelengths with Repair Serum Capsules to amplify regeneration in ways that felt almost futuristic.
To tackle stubborn hyperpigmentation and uneven tone, I turned to targeted light and actives. The MZ Skin LED Eye Mask (available at John Bell & Croyden) reduced fine lines, under-eye darkness while stimulating collagen, while Dr Sebagh’s Pure Vitamin C Powder Cream, activated fresh at each use, worked alongside his Deep Exfoliating Mask to resurface and inhibit melanin production.
At night, La Prairie’s White Caviar Light Concentrate drenched skin in brightening peptides and antioxidants, sealed with their Platinum Rare Haute Rejuvenation Mask for a cushion of hydration and morning radiance.
A skincare arsenal that you can rotate is key to any routine
Protection meant resilience. ESPA’s Tri-Active Resilience Collection supported the skin’s microbiome and calmed pollution-triggered inflammation. RAAIE’s Golden Nectar Honey Enzyme Cleanser exfoliated gently without disturbing the barrier, and Royal Fern’s Phytoactive Antioxidant Ampoules provided plant-based antioxidants to shield collagen from free radicals.
A gentle enzyme cleanser from RAAIE and IRAYE's firming serum gave results without stripping the skin with the actives
Even beyond the face, IRAYE’s Radiance Firming Serum (all available at John Bell & Croyden) encouraged lymphatic drainage, firmed skin, and softened cellulite.
Recovery is the quiet fourth pillar, the pause that allows every other effort to take hold.
Hair and Scalp Reset
Thinning hair isn’t just cosmetic, it often begins at the scalp. Stress, hormones, and inflammation can all disrupt the follicle environment, slowing growth and reducing density. A healthy scalp is as important as healthy skin: it provides the foundation for strong, resilient strands.
Flora Lab and La Bonne Brosse restored my scalp health and new hair growth was visible by the end of my biohacking
To restore balance, I used Flora Lab’s Intensive Detox Hair Mask to clear product buildup and nourish the roots, creating space for new growth. Pure Ingredient Booster No.6 Microbiome Scalp Serum rebalanced scalp flora, easing irritation and supporting the follicles’ natural cycle. Daily brushing with La Bonne Brosse N.02 (available at John Bell & Croyden) boosted circulation, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients to the roots while adding shine and smoothness.
Biohacking Sundays
Once a week, I transformed my home into a clinic with a structured four-step ritual. To avoid overstimulation, I alternated devices in a two-week cycle: one week focused on calming and clarifying the skin, while the next concentrated on collagen and lifting. This rhythm created steady, visible progress without overwhelming my skin.

Week A: Clarity and Inflammation Control
1. Circulation Reset: I began with the Therabody Cryothermal Rings. Alternating hot and cold boosted microcirculation, drained excess fluid, and reduced puffiness, priming my skin to absorb treatments more effectively.
2. Light Therapy: The Omnilux Clear LED Mask targeted acne-causing bacteria, reduced redness, and kept breakouts under control.
3. Cold Plasma Treatment: My staple in K-Beauty skincare - a Cold Plasma Acne Machine calmed inflammation, accelerated skin healing, and strengthened the barrier for long-term resilience.
4. Hydration and Repair: I sealed the session with the La Prairie mask, restoring epidermal growth factors, locking in hydration, and leaving skin calm and replenished.

Week B: Collagen and Lifting
1. Circulation Reset: Again, I started with the Cryothermal Rings to wake up the skin and boost nutrient delivery.
2. Red and Near-Infrared Therapy: The ThermoLab Sauna (a game changing purchase for me) and Aura Pro LED panel delivered deep-penetrating light energy. On the face, this activated fibroblasts to stimulate collagen and elastin, smoothing fine lines and boosting elasticity. It also improved circulation and reduced low-level inflammation for a clearer, more even complexion. For the body, near-infrared wavelengths reached muscles and mitochondria, improving energy production, aiding post-exercise recovery, reducing soreness, and enhancing lymphatic flow. The sauna effect added detoxification benefits, leaving both skin and body renewed.

3. Radiofrequency or EMS: Using the Muse RF device, I tightened skin, firmed contours, and stimulated facial muscles, creating a lifted, sculpted effect over time.
4. Collagen Boosting Mask: I ended with LABAREAU’s AHA peel followed by a collagen-infused K-Beauty mask to replenish hydration and enhance firmness, locking in all the benefits.
Clinic Boost
For an added layer of rejuvenation, I also had a one-off treatment at the Maylin Clinic with the BNV Exo treatment with Virtue RF Microneedling. This combined radiofrequency with microneedling to stimulate collagen at a deeper level than at-home tools, improving texture, firmness, and long-term skin strength. I had this mid way of my experiment and my oily skin was normal/dry by this point.

By alternating between these two versions of Biohacking Sundays, one week focused on soothing inflammation and breakouts, while the next rebuilt structure and tone. The result was balance: fewer flare-ups, improved clarity, and gradual but noticeable gains in firmness, radiance, and resilience.
Recovery and Sleep
The Fourth Pillar: Recovery
No protocol is complete without recovery. Regeneration depends as much on rest as it does on treatments, and without quality downtime even the most advanced interventions cannot deliver lasting results.

Evening Wind-Down
Most evenings at night, I used the ThermoLab infrared sauna with its red and infrared LED panel. The infrared heat penetrated deep into muscles and tissues, improving circulation, flushing out toxins, and easing inflammation. The light wavelengths activated fibroblasts, priming collagen activity for firmer, smoother skin. Just as importantly, the ritual calmed my nervous system, releasing tension and preparing the body for true rest-and-repair mode.
I anchored my nights with the NORVEGR Classic All-Year Duvet, made from thermoregulating down. By keeping my body temperature balanced, it prevented night sweats and allowed me to stay in deeper, uninterrupted sleep cycles. Quality sleep restored hormonal balance, lowered cortisol, and gave my skin and body the chance to repair microdamage. The visible results were improved energy levels, clearer skin, reduced puffiness, and a fresher glow in the morning.

Brain Recovery
On stressful days, I reached for the Brain Driver tDCS v2.1, a device that delivers a gentle current to the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that governs mood and emotional balance. What once sounded like sci-fi is now firmly in the research spotlight. Clinical trials suggest tDCS can lift symptoms of depression, ease anxiety, and even rewire stress pathways by strengthening the brain’s ability to adapt.
For me, the benefits were immediate. After a long day, the session quieted mental chatter, calmed the edge of stress, and softened low moods. It created the kind of clarity and ease that set the stage for deeper rest, the mental equivalent of resetting skin with a fresh mask. This will be my staple moving forwards.
Morning Recovery
Each morning, I extended this recovery cycle. A large glass of filtered water from Milky Plant's The Watery ensures that all of the terrible things found in my London tap water including hormones are removed. It achieves this through a four-stage osmosis process. I then diluted mineral-rich TruHerb Shilajit which rehydrated cells after the overnight fast, while gentle stretching stimulated lymphatic flow to reduce puffiness and stiffness. Natural light within the first 30 minutes reset my circadian rhythm, boosting energy and improving mood for the day ahead. On slower mornings, I used a gua sha or chilled facial roller to de-puff, stimulate circulation, and brighten my complexion.

Together, these rituals closed the loop on recovery. The Fourth Pillar ensured that all the effort I invested in skincare, internal wellness, and biohacking could actually take hold, giving my body the space to renew, my mind the clarity to reset, and my skin the chance to reflect it all.
RESULTS
Progress Timeline

Day 0 – Baseline - Skin reactive and oily, pigmentation stubborn, breakouts inflamed. Energy inconsistent and night sweats disruptive. Withings Body Scan: 38 (chronological age).
Day 7 – Early Shifts - Breakouts still appeared but were less inflamed. Skin felt calmer after LED sessions, although oil production remained high. Sleep was deeper, though night sweats continued.
Day 14 – Subtle Promises - Spots were smaller and healing faster. Radiance improved and oiliness began to level out. Pigmentation had not yet shifted, but the tone looked brighter in photos.
Day 21 – Recovery Gains - Acne recovery time shortened. The skin barrier felt stronger, hydration lasted longer, and my T-zone was less greasy by the end of the day. Energy became steadier.

Day 28 – Visible Change - Pigmentation on my jawline began to fade. Withings vascular age dropped by 1.5 years. Baby hairs sprouted at my temples. Fatigue lifted and oil production stabilised so my skin felt balanced rather than oily.
Day 35 – Steady Progress - Under-eye puffiness softened, texture smoothed, and my mood felt lighter. Brain Driver sessions sharpened my focus. Gut flare-ups were less frequent. Skin looked clearer with fewer clogged pores.
Day 42 – Building Momentum - My complexion looked brighter in daily photo logs. The barrier was resilient enough for stronger actives. Energy stayed consistent throughout the day. My skin felt normal for the first time, with no mid-afternoon shine.
Day 49 – Confirmed by Data - Vascular age reduced by 5 years. Skin firmer and tone more even. Acne no longer left scars. Balanced oil production meant makeup stayed in place without sliding off.

Day 60 – Transformation - Skin luminous, calm, and resilient. No longer oily, just balanced and hydrated. Pigmentation softened, acne minimal, sleep restorative, and mood sharpened. Withings Body Scan: biological age 28 — a full decade younger in measurable terms.
What I Learned
The first truth: inflammation is aging. Cooling it through gut health, NAD+ support, and stress regulation made the most systemic difference. Products worked best when they strengthened my skin barrier rather than stripped it. Technology accelerated results, but recovery held them in place. Tools and rituals mattered, but only when layered with consistency. Acne healed when hydration and microbiome balance came first. And mind and skin proved inseparable: when stress was managed and sleep deepened, my focus sharpened as clearly as my complexion.

Conclusion: A Future Already Here
This 60-day experiment was never about vanity. It was about testing whether biohacking could reset biology in measurable terms. It did.
Where Bryan Johnson invests millions in extreme regimens, I found that precision, discipline, and recovery achieved more than spectacle. Longevity does not require obsession. Sometimes it is collagen built instead of stripped, inflammation calmed instead of ignored, and sleep treated as medicine.
The revelation was this: youth is not about forcing the clock backwards, but about aligning biology so it can thrive. After 60 days, with my biological age rewound from 38 to 28, I understood that the future of rejuvenation is not a distant promise. It is already here.
